Whoops, was supposed to do this yesterday. Was too busy playing music for old people and getting stressed out in the studio with Ben.
It was good experience playing at the Age Concern Centre yesterday. Was kinda hard to find a park though. All the parks on the block were 15 minute parking places. After driving around the block twice, I drove up their driveway - which was incredibly narrow, and the carpark at the back was rather small. Leaving at the end of my performance was a test of my reversing ability haha. Anyway, my performance was a good challenge because obviously, no amps or distortion, just acoustic instruments. Played classical guitar and did some improv for half an hour, then did some piano improv for another half an hour. Piano improv is great if your music theory knowledge is airtight - I mean, here's me modulating all over the place and I could have sworn I heard one of them folks say "Is he playing a B flat???" Good times haha.
So after that I headed over to Te Mata peak to Ben's studio, and the equipment played up again. Must not like me... at least there's a bit more room to more in the recording room now. We had a bit of a drum off afterwards but I'm sure everyone could guess who won that one haha!
So anyway I'm still doing instrumental stuff in the meantime, check out Hallucinate here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM3hAnglQD8, I demonstrate my new ability to sidechain in this. A lot of people seem to like it, so check it out here. Otherwise thats basically my musical week in a nutshell. Cya! =)

Good morning everyone =)
(That's a smiley face by the way, I do them different to the usual :) )
Anyway, over the last couple of days I've been working on developing my ability to use FL Studio, most noticably, the sidechain effect in my newest creation "Hallucinate" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM3hAnglQD8&feature=g-u&context=G21550c9FUAAAAAAABAA. It's quite simple when you get the hang of it, you have to know how to send instruments to the mixer and link controllers and that kind of thing. I dunno, there's not much happening but I'm trying to post one of these blogs every Monday. So what else has happened... hmmm. Not really a lot, haven't really worked on Step In The Dark (New CD thing) lately, although I've finished the lyrics to all but one song. Better give Ben a ring this afternoon... haha. Anyway, if you have a copy of Guitar Pro or Power Tab and want one of my songs in tablature so you can play it, just let me know, you can post on my wall on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/stephenkilgour.music and I'll see what I can do. Probably one of the more playable songs though, like Sleep or Edge Of Light or even Sand and Inverse.
Everyone have a good week =) I'm outta here - thanks for reading.

First of all, Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone had as much fun as I did on Saturday night.
Now then, lets talk music. Let's see...
Guitars.
Well I've finally figured out a standard tuning for both my electrics, as I used to have a habit of having to retune to some crazy tuning for just about every song in Valyem. Its now Drop D for the Raptor and Drop Eb for the RG. I'm also really liking my new Dean Edge 1-5 5-string bass, sounds really nice. Only downside is that the strings are friggin $70 to replace.
Music in general.
Well obviously "Last Stand" was very diverse in genre, ranging from jazz to electronic. I've finished recording the music itself for the next CD, just gotta add the vocals. It's aiming to be an electronic rock CD, but the next one after that is planned to be an actual rock album, seeing as my fellow bandmate Ben Bartley has his recording studio up and running.
Ben's Recording studio.
OK well first of all, it looks very professional and really awesome. But as far as recording stuff goes, it's just been a nightmare so far. Hope to get everything sorted out soon.
Next CD.
It's gonna have 10 tracks on it, one of which is an instrumental song. I've narrowed down the choice in instrument sounds from "Last Stand", for example, I'm only using one drum kit now. It's also got a central theme to the CD, but that's all I'm gonna say about my new project at the present time.
I also have one copy left of the current batch of "Last Stand" CD's sitting on my bedside table if anyone wants to buy it. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=435768853
Right, I'm off to bed now. Cya =)
